Christmas Miku! Happy Holidays from Radiantdreamer!

2009 December 23

Happy Holidays! It’s the holiday season! With Christmas fast approaching, I thought I’d celebrate by creating a photoshop of a Xmas Miku! I was going to do this photoshop on Friday, but guessing from how busy Christmas Day will be, I figure I’d do an early photoshop post this week instead.

This actually took a bit longer than I had expected, but it turned out pretty good. Click on the image for a 1280 wallpaper!

I’m not 100% sold on the hat. I guess part of it is because it still looks so much more detailed and sharp compared to the simple design of a nendoroid. Plus the lighting is wrong to begin with. I could have painted my own hat, I guess.

Though it was a rough start, it’s been a great year for RadiantDreamer! I hope the trend continues next year.

Have a safe and Merry Christmas!

Dark Saber Lily

2009 December 18
by Radiant

A bit of a lazy post today, so I’ve cut straight to the chase. :)

I was inspired after seeing this post of someone’s Saber Lily mod. Since I have zero skill in painting my own figures (well, that’s not true, but it might as well be), and I most certainly wouldn’t want to risk taking apart my Saber Lily for this, I decided the next best thing would be to make a photoshop version. I got lazy this time, and ended up using one of the shots previously posted in the Omake, but I probably would have gotten a similar result had I done a re-shoot anyway.

Here’s a youtube video of it being made:

And also, here’s a 1280 wallpaper!

Enjoy!

100th Post! (and 108,600 hits)

2009 December 16

Wow, I never would have thought that I would blog this much. 100 posts is a lot! (and 338 comments since the last time I posted about the 1000 comments!) To celebrate, I thought I’d do something a little special, and write about how this came to be, the best of my blog posts, and what I’m going to do going forward.

Singapore: Meeting with Comrades

2009 December 1

This weekend, I was blessed with the opportunity to meet up with some Singaporean comrades, Zh3us,Yuki-To, Ederuferuto, User66b, and ScorchNRoses, who showed me around the city’s main Anime hotspots. While I’ve been to Singapore many times before this, I never knew where all the good anime stores were. I was limited to the major shopping malls, which were typically over-priced, and incredibly limited in selection. With my new friends, I got to see the more “underside” of where all the best stuff could be found.

Beyond AFA – What Singapore is like

2009 November 27

So I’m posting this mostly for the benefit of the people who did not get a chance to see Singapore during their short trip to and from AFA, for those who want to know more about Singapore, and also for those Singaporeans who are expats, and miss home. (Yes, you chun!) Considering that Singapore is the next most proliferant anime hub this side of the english internetz community, it makes sense to know more about Singapore’s people, and its infrastructure and land. I’m not going to delve into the history or its culture. You can find all that on wikipedia or something. I’m more interested in covering the more important aspects… the food, and the shopping!

Anime Festival Asia ‘09- My Turn to AFA

2009 November 25

My very first anime convention, and it was the incredibly awesome Anime Festival Asia in Singapore. While many people chose to focus on the merchandise, I decided to focus on the participants of the con – the cosplayers. SIXTY crazy photos ahead! With Singapore being the next most proliferate anime hub, the cosplayers have quite the reputation to hold up, and it doesn’t disappoint.

Radiant Dreamer Featured on Animeblips

2009 November 21
by Radiant

I never thought it would be possible, but Radiant Dreamer is now featured on Anime Blips!

It was definitely an interesting experience. The interview questions asked were similar to what has been asked of other featured blogs, but Robyn tailored it more geared towards my specialty in photoshop. :)

Robyn was a very pleasant person to work with, and informed me that I was ranked at around 100 out of their 600 tracked sites, which was pretty surprising for me, and very flattering.

It was an honor to be featured on Anime Blips, and also for having the opportunity to be interviewed by Robyn. If you don’t really know about Anime Blips, they’re a feature site similar to an anime version of Digg, with the ability for users to vote up and vote down interesting topics. This makes it very easy and relevant to anime news readers who want to catch the best quality topics voted by other anime fans of similar interest. Do go check it out, and do vote for me too!

The biggest thanks I have to give is only to my readers. You guys are more than just “readers” to me. Being able to connect with you guys through your comments is very important to me. It lets me know what you guys like to see, and your support helps keep me going on a very difficult and niche subject of anime photoshop/compositing. I know that the ones that take the time and effort to comment are my good friends, and I appreciate the feedback.

On another note, I have survived my first day at AFA 09 (thanks for getting me the tickets, Zh3us!), having just landed, and having caught a cold from my wife. I’m still incredibly jetlagged (It’s 6:43am in Vancouver, which means I haven’t slept all night). Hopefully AFA has helped me with adjusting to the time zone difference, and I’ll be back to normal by tomorrow.

I’ve taken over 100 photos at the event, so stay tuned as I sort through the best ones, and make a post about it. With how tired I am, I probably won’t be attending the second day, even though I’ve already paid for it. We’ll see how it goes.

Saber Lily Omake!

2009 November 13

A bit of a lazy post this week, not because I don’t want to, but because I don’t have time at the moment. I’m getting ready to take a trip to Singapore next week, so from here until the beginning of December, you probably won’t see a photoshop post. But I may keep you updated on AFA 09 and whatever cool things happen while I’m there.

I’ve decided to take this opportunity and post some of the omitted shots from both Winged Lily and Angel Lily. By the way, all these pics have larger versions if you click on them.
